Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects the occupation of Information Security Analyst to grow at 18% or 14,800 jobs through 2024. The misfortune of hacked companies creates an opportunity in this growing field of cybersecurity. Exacerbating the problem is that cleaning up cybercrime is exorbitant. One study of the cost of cybercrime in Italy found that while the actual losses were only $875 million, the recovery costs reached $8.5 billion! Since 2013, a series of high-loss attacks added to a list that includes TJ Maxx, Sony, Macy’s, Target, Home Depot, and others. Thinking of a career in cybersecurity? Consider this…the predicted annual cost to the global economy from cybercrime is more than $445 billion, including both the gains to criminals and the costs to companies for recovery and defense. The United States, for example, reported 3,000 companies in 2013 that had been hacked.
